Troy Innocent, Jeff Janet, Trinh Vu and Joel Zika have used the latest digital laser cutting technology to create paper artworks and sculptures for the ‘Rock, Paper, Lasers’ exhibition that started yesterday at the Kick Gallery in Northcote. The Exhibition Opening however is tomorrow night (Friday).‘One of the intentions of the artists in this exhibition is to deride the mass production of iconography - such as that which is so often seen in ‘homewares’ or ‘lifestyle’ shops - and make a series of more unique works. Other works in the show are intended to exemplify the possibilities of these tools for the creation of contemporary art. While these artists cast a light on the facelessness of the prefabricated object, at the same time, they choose to revel in the machine’s benefits for more unique creative purposes rather than running from them.’ - Kick GalleryMelbourne

Over my morning coffee whilst flicking through the behance network I came across these amazing paper sculptures by Alexandra Zaharova and Ilya Plotnikov. I really admire the clean crsip lines, use of black and white, and the way in which it complements the presentation of the jewelry so well. Though it did take me to get to the last image to notice that the images were featuring pieces of jewelry and that this was the primary purpose. Art wise, I’m loving it! Advertising wise, more emphasis on the jewelry would of been nice.

Sydney based artist Rebecca Murphy is currently seeking artists interested in modifying a small ceramic piggy bank for a group exhibition that is is planned for late 09/early 10.'why? we're thinking swine flu. when pigs fly. three little piggies. bacon and eggs. the recession. art as an investment. having a little fun, and getting to know you.' - Rebecca MurphyI was lucky to meet Rebecca a few times during my last trip to Sydney in April and she has just the most wonderfully bubbly personality. Hence it doesn't surprise me that she has chosen to put together an exhibition that will be as fun as this one.

The next issue for 'Just To Annoy You' is themed 'Winter' and they are looking for entries with a wintery like feel about it. It can be anything from a recipe for a hot drink to keep you deliciously warm, photos from your last trip to the snow or a poem about how great it is to be curled up inside when it's pouring with rain outside.
My how time flys... it’s almost August, which means that there will be new ad spots available for the new month. As someone who knows that value in advertising but also knows that sometimes you just simply don’t have funds to pay for it I’m offering two single ad spots for a swap.

One of my little secrets is that I love changing my desktop wallpapers on a regular basis, another thing that’s not so secret is that I love typography.
Why oh why isn’t ‘Exposed! The Story of Swimwear’ coming to Melbourne? When I was younger I was quite the swimmer if I do say so myself and picking out a new pair of racing bathers from a catalogue was oh so much fun. I can still recall when I wanted a pair of magenta racing bathers by Speedo and then there was my first pair of racing bikini’s which had an aqua, blue and black smoky swirl pattern on them. Swimwear was a huge part of life and as a surfer now it still is, as I can imagine it is for many other Australians. Hence why I would love to see this exhibition.
How sweet are these shadow puppet brooches by Lola & Bailey? Ever since when I was young and was given a pocket guide to shadow hand puppets by my late Grandad, I’ve been enchanted by the history behind this simple past time. Hence I’m just smitten over the brooches, which are also available as a necklace charms.

Créon (pronounced crayon), Scrawled his way into the art scene from an aborted design background, Créon keeps things going with constant experimentation of application and mediums. occasionally he re-surfaces striking sketches, slicing into sheik stencils that end up square in the undercoats of his experimental treachery. He often retreats back to his voracious bed to siphon ideas from his mid-conscious half sleeps. - Oh Really GallerySydney

"Eye Value is a new series of contemporary jewellery works by Suni Gibson. The work in Eye Value examines the relevance of jewellery in contemporary consumer culture and its historic and existing use as a signifier of wealth and status. Through strategies of repetition, simulation, subtraction and illusion, the work challenges our relationship with luxury goods and the significance of jewellery in popular culture." - Suni 2009Wellington, NZ

There is a little exhibition of some of the most delightful clothes at the National Gallery in Melbourne. I just love period clothes so next time I'm in the area of the NGV I'm making a point to check out Persuasion: Fashion in the Age of Jane Austen.
Persuasion: Fashion in the Age of Jane Austen focuses on English women’s fashion during the first two decades of the nineteenth century. Where during this time there where some of the most dynamic trends/changes in fashion, from constricted and exaggerated boned corsetry, to gowns of diaphanous white muslin and then towards fuller-bodied silk fabrics being used to create the feminine hour glass shape.

I'm horrible at taking photos on opening nights of exhibitions, always have my camera on hand but never think to pull it out. However on Saturday when in the city I stopped by and took some photos of the display of artworks and the mass of bright pink covers of Curvy 6.
